Basic Tips for Farming in World of Warcraft
by Chan Joon
In World of Warcraft, the most important aspect for most people is the gathering of more advanced equipment, more gold, and the ever so elusive Epic item. There are numerous ways of going about doing this, from the most simplistic approaches of just playing the game and waiting for them to build up to the ever popular farming method. Farming in World of Warcraft is more than simply killing random monsters for the sake of gathering gold though. It's an efficient way of building your character's in game worth and if done properly can actually be mildly entertaining as well.
You're going to need a few items when you first start off. You can't simple run out into the wild and begin killing Mobs, hoping to build up your gold stash without having to spend a bit. It's important to balance what you buy with what class you are as well. For those that can heal quicker, or cast healing spells, you might not need as many potions.
Assuming you are above level 30, as most farmers likely are (below 30, farming is almost unnecessary), grab a few powerful potions before leaving town. Consider Trolls Blood Potions or anything with a solid regeneration quality. It makes healing faster as well as more efficient. Grab a few other items as well, such as stat or spell boosters and you should be ready to head out.
Your next step is to find a good place to set up and farm. There are two things to look for when farming - first off, how quickly do the monsters respawn. If they take too long, you'll be stuck waiting around and generally wasting your time. Second, how much XP do you get from them? If it's not enough, you're still wasting your time. Of course, if they offer little XP and a lot of Gold or good items, they can still be worth your time.
Don't just assume a monster with a lot of XP is worth your time though. If it takes a long time to kill it and you are forced to use large amounts of potions or lose most of your health in the process, it might not be worth your time. You're looking for a careful balance of easy to kill monsters and high level, XP loaded kills. Keep track of how much XP you're getting from which monsters and how long it's taking. There are additions to the game that allow you to keep track, or you can simply take notes as you play.
For those people out there playing on PVP servers, you can't simply watch a movie and keep farming. You're going to run into PK'ers and other people who might snag your kills, your gold, or your life in the process. Don't start battling over a spot with someone if there aren't enough monsters or items to support you both and generally you don't want to go around making people mad.
