World of Warcraft Guide Druid - Jump Start Your New WOW Druid
by Paul Burkhardt
Congratulations, you have chosen to play a Druid. If this is the first time you have played a Druid you should find this information helpful to help get you going. Here we will give a general overview of basic Druid play and some points on getting your Druid on it's way too the higher levels A.S.A.P.
When starting out as a Druid in the original World of Warcraft you have two races to choose from. If you choose to go with the Alliance you will have to be a night elf. If the Horde if more to your liking then you will have to be a tauren. With the Cataclysm expansion pack your choices for Alliance will be night elf or worgen and for the Horde you can play a tauren or troll. Take a close look at the different racial traits to help you determine which race you would like to play unless you have already decided on the Horde or Alliance faction.
Some points to consider when choosing a Druid race:
The night elf is very stealthy with an increase to dodge which makes it very effective at getting out of melee combat when the fighting gets a little too rough. Night elves are also very prone to sneaking around using the Prowl spell making them effective scouts. If tanking is more your style then check out the tauren which get a 5% bonus to total health making them much better as a Druid tank. The tauren Druid also has War Stomp that when used correctly can very effectively stun the Druids foes making them far easier to defeat.
At the very start, no matter what character class or race you are playing I recommend keeping it simple. For the first several levels simply get a feel of your character and what you are able to do. Whenever possible don't stay in the heat of battle too long. Use range weapons and spells to keep your character out of harms way. But don't misinterpret this as just fooling around. Pay close attention to questing and be sure to do every quest you can get your hands on. If you think you have completed all the quests in your present area check again to be sure.
Train, train, train.
Be sure to learn as much as possible from your available trainer before moving on to another area of World of Warcraft. And don't forget to look into what professions you might be interested in pursuing. Professions research is important, don't ignore them. Some professions are very good money makers, use this early level learning time to think about how you will build your character into the powerhouse you want it to be. It might be a little early to mention this but try to save a little gold. At level 20 you will be able to purchase a mount making it much quicker to travel in World of Warcraft. So keep that in mind as you level up your character.
In the first few levels your Druid will not have much of a choice of how to play. You start off with one long range attack and basic healing abilities. Earn a little money and you will be able to learn the Mark of the Wild buff which you should keep on hand at all times for now.
At level 4 you can learn your first debuff, Moonfire. Use this spell often to help weaken your enemies. You will also get Rejuvenation which will be very handy to keep your health up in addition to Healing Touch.
Level 6 will allow you to learn Thorns which you will find to be an excellent offensive buff that you will want to keep active.
At level 8 things really start to get good with the Entangling Roots restraining spell which holds your foes in place while you blow them away using Wraths and Moonfire.
Level 10 brings your Druid to the point where the Druids shapeshifting abilities come in to play. Bear form at level 10 opens up a whole new aspect of the game for the Druid. Not only is Bearform powerful but it helps you travel through World of Warcraft much faster.
Here is a quick breakdown of the different spells and buffs you will come upon through level 20.
Levels 10 - 14 Ferocity - Rank 5/5 Less mana usage by 5 for Claw,Mangle,Maul,Rake and Swipe abilities. Levels 15 - 16 Savage Fury - Rank 2/2 20% damage bonus to Claw,Mangle,Maul and Rake abilities. Levels 17 - 19 Thick Hide - Rank 3/3 10% armor contribution from items bonus increasing defense
