Reputation and Factions in World of Warcraft
by Chan Joon
Reputation is an addition that allows players to join factions that they will encounter throughout the world or simply interact with them casually. Depending on what you do for them or against them, your reputation will change. This might include killing certain creatures or completing specific quests.
What is Reputation?
The purpose of gaining reputation points with factions is in accessing certain quests or items that can only be received when in a certain standing with a particular faction. There are numerous factions throughout Azeroth and it might be a little hard to keep track o them all. You can easily check your status with them by pressing "U" on the keyboard and taking a look at the following levels:
Exalted - This is the highest level of reputation you can receive with any one factionRevered - Above most other levels, revered players are highly regardedHonored - Having completed a few basic quests, Honored individuals receive 10% discounts on itemsFriendly - This is the standard reputation level for anyone on your side or teamNeutral - Standard reputation level for anyone not on your side or teamUnfriendly - You cannot buy, sell, or interact with these factionsHostile - They will kill you on sight (if you let them)Hated - They will kill on sight. Those on opposing factions will be set to this right away
Click on any of the factions listed in your reputation pane and you'll find information that relates exactly where you stand with them. If you click on any of the factions you can also receive further information on your standing. You can choose a faction as well to be displayed directly below your experience bar relating how much experience you have in building your reputation with a faction. You can also mark any of the factions as inactive and move them to the bottom of the list for ease of access and reading.
What Are the Factions?
There are numerous factions throughout the game. First off, your choice between Alliance and Horde is considered a separation by team. Each of the five races for each main team is considered a faction as well. For any factions on the opposing team, you will notice that the reputation level never changes from Hated and the "At War" status. Also, you are automatically given a bonus in reputation with your own race. To be noted, those that choose to be Undead players will start with the lowest reputation levels in the game with any other factions and the other Horde players will similarly have low reputation levels when starting against the Undead.
There are dozens more factions as well, related to certain regions and later certain sides of disputes. You can choose between them or join more than one in certain instances, while trying to gather up rare and hard to find items. By taking advantage of the new reputation system, you can get the most out of your World of Warcraft game.
